I Spend A Lot Of Time Online

Posted in Internet with tags , , , , on April 3, 2009 by Mario Speedwagon

First I’d like to talk about how much I am loving Starburst “FaveREDs.” A package of Starburst made up of only the red flavors from the various Starburst types. There is watermelon, cherry, fruit punch, and strawberry.

So yeah, I spend a good bit of my day on the internet. Reading blogs, reading record reviews, writing news stories, doing press releases, checking out bands MySpace pages, updating the Team Clermont webpage, checking out links that have been sent to me via JJ, the Big Gray mailing list, or other friends, whatever. I am always online. Here is some of the random shit I’ve checked out today.

Photoshop Phriday on Something Awful (my favorites are here and here.)

Huffington Post article and live video feed on that Binghamton Shooting.

Watched some unplugged Cursive jams over at Spin TV.

My co-worker made me watch this.

Then I read CNN and about how Iowa is awesome.

I also watched that Borat trailer (posted below) and read Dlisted. Feel free to pass along any stupid shit you think I should check out via comment, email, or gchat.

The Bruno Trailer

I’m not sure what I think about the Bruno trailer yet. Nudity, dildos, fashion, and a NC-17 rating, as of now.

Bacon Fest 2009

Posted in Music, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on April 2, 2009 by Mario Speedwagon

My friend Richard is having BACON FEST ’09 this weekend on Sunday, April 5. Bacon Fest, as stated on the official Facebook entry, started as a good/horrible idea between two dudes (Richard and Alex) and has how expanded in to a annual event. I’m not quite sure what bacony treat I will be making these year. I’ve been searching on Tastespotting for some ideas. Here is what I have so far:

Bacon & Egg Toast Cups

I’m a huge fan of breakfast.

Bacon Wrapped Dates, Stuffed With Almonds And Goat Cheese

A classic. Bacon wrapped things are usually a hit.

Bacon, Tomato, Mozzarella Cups

These almost seem like they might be healthy…ish. Weird.

Bacon Wrapped Hotdog

I probably should be disgusted by this, but I’m not.

Chipotle Lime Bacon Wrapped Shrimp

Again with bacon wrapped things.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated. I also really need one of my friends to wear this.

“One Day” – The Juan MacLean
“Weed Wine & Wankers (SLUTTT Remix)” – Miss Odd Kidd
“Click Click (featuring E-40)” – MSTRKRFT

Upcoming Tours For Bands I Dig; Plus LOST

Posted in Music, Television with tags , , , , , on April 2, 2009 by Mario Speedwagon

Lost last night was a serious snooze-fest. I guess I don’t want to talk about specifics too much, since there are probably people out there who haven’t watched it yet, but everything that was “revealed” last night was a total DUH. It was also a Kate episode, and while I guess in season one I kind of liked Kate and thought her character was interesting, now I think she’s boring, selfish, a whiner and kind of a bitch. I’m getting a bit antsy because there is only about twenty or so episodes left of Lost and shit better start gettin’ ‘splained. Next weeks episode looks like it might be awesome. A John Locke vs. Ben Linus throw-down is exactly what I need. On a side note: Kate was all up ons some Roger “Workman” Linus last night too, which was weird. Maybe she has a fondness for scruffy drunks.

Titus Andronicus are hitting the road this June with Lucero for the first half and Ted Leo/Rx for the second half. They’ll be playing Athens on June 11, so that means I get the Ted Leo/Rx show (Jersey in the house.) You can check out tour dates for Titus Andronicus on the Beggers website and Ted Leo/Rx on the Touch & Go website.

Man Man are heading out with Cursive (let me mention how their album title Mama, I’m Swollen makes me feel icky,) and playing a few select dates with Gogol Bordello. Their tour runs from mid-April to early-June. You can find the dates over at Pitchfork.

I suspect there should be more bands touring soon while they make their way to various summer festivals. Stay tuned.

“The Numbered Head (Robert Pollard cover)” – Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
“Upon Viewing Brueghels ‘Landscape With The Fall Of Icarus'” – Titus Andronicus
“From The Hips” – Cursive

Guiding Light Is Ovah

Posted in Television with tags , on April 2, 2009 by Mario Speedwagon

CBS announced today that they will air the final episode of Guiding Light on September 18, 2009. I probably haven’t watched Guiding Light since I stayed home from school with strep throat in 3rd grade, but that show has been around forever. Seriously forever. It’s older than both my grandparents. Guiding Light has been around since the introduction of the television. It started as a radio show in 1937 on NBC. It moved to CBS as a television show in 1952. Proctor & Gamble (Ivory, Mr. Clean, etc.) said they would try and find a new home for the show, most likely on a cable network. CBS executives blame the economy and the fact that originally, soaps were targeted to house wives and stay-at-home moms, a demographic that sixty years ago made up 63% of women. Now, 60% of women have jobs are not home during the day.

CBS president Nancy Tellem insists that soaps are not “washed up” and that they still make a profit during the day, as the Bold and the Beautiful still attracts somewhere around or over 3.5 million viewers. However aside from Guiding Light, gone are the days of Passions, Port Charles, Another World, Sunset Beach, and a few others, all axed due to lack of daytime viewers (Passions was fucking weird; they had a town witch. Tabitha what up!) Kevin Bacon, Joan Collins, that troll from Heroes, and a few other now-notable television and movie actors have been on Guiding Light. If you want to get famous though, you should try and get on General Hospital or As The World Turns.

Yeah, so I made a stupid blog. We’ll see how long this lasts. I typically forget about things like this or get lazy after a month. I’ll start posting actual content here tomorrow or something. It’s like 7:13 and I’m gearing up for Lost. L8R.
